The Denver Field Office handles Indian water rights litigation and negotiations. The position would almost exclusively involve Indian water rights matters which involve three primary components: affirmative litigation on behalf of Tribes to protect their water rights in state and federal court; lengthy settlement negotiations to determine if settlement of the tribal water rights is possible; and evaluation and litigation of non-Indian water rights that impact Tribal resources. The position involves extensive contact with the client agency, the Department of the Interior, as well as court appearances, preliminary hearings and trials, preparation of briefs and other pleadings, and participation in negotiations.
